More than an electric bike shop. A garage, a vision and passion seemed to be the main ingredients for Mark Moore to start the successful Cit-E-Cycles business. At first out of his garage, he began selling electric scooters with the vision to offer something that was not only faster than a regular bicycle but, just as environmentally friendly.
Soon after starting, more and more people were asking about electric bikes and therefore Mark added the first electric bike, a «VeloMini». Mark still has one of the first prototypes of this bike which shows his passion for what he's doing. His original idea was to run an online business, but the interest from the public was too demanding for a strictly online presence. At this time, manufacturers from everywhere were calling wanting him to carry their e-bikes in his shop because at the time, no regular bike shops were interested in selling electric bikes. Therefore, Mark took the opportunity to open up his first brick and mortar Cit-E-Cycles shop in Richmond BC.
Space is becoming short
While not even open for one year, in 2011 the Richmond location could not support the rapidly growing market. Cit-E-Cycles moved their Shop to a bigger location in Surrey, still open today. The business continued to grow quickly, and soon Mark found himself in need of opening a second location in late 2014. In March 2015, the second Cit-E-Cycles Location was officially opened in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver. In less than 6 month the Vancouver location outsold the Surrey location.
In fall of 2017, our Vancouver shop manager decided to move to Victoria, together they thought of opening a third Cit-E-Cycles location in Victoria. While planning for Victoria was still going on, Mark stepped into another opportunity opening a fourth shop in Langley. After months of decision making and looking for the perfect location to serve the new community, the Langley shop opened in March of 2018. Just one month later, the Victoria shop opened their doors.
To close the gap and serve the customers on the North Shore, Sunshine Coast and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, September 2019 Cit-E-Cycles opened their fifth location in North Vancouver.
Mark understood the need for an alternative transportation option in bigger cities like Vancouver where road capacities are overflowing. Furthermore, another strong demand Mark was aware of was the demand from the older generation, and people with disabilities or health issues looking to get out and stay in shape. Steep hills and long distances can be difficult to conquer using a regular bicycle.
To meet the needs of these wide range of use, Mark continues adding new brands to ensure we always have the perfect bike ready for any customer who walks into one of his shops. Mark only carries brands that meet a high level of quality, "we want to stay 100% behind the products we sell", Mark says.
